Danny and Kathryn

I always enjoyed Uncle Peter’s company. Always enjoyed chatting to him about nothing in particular. I don’t recall ever having a serious conversation with him about anything... chats would always be lighthearted stuff... laughing at something or someone; mostly laughing at him! As kids we would grow up to see Uncle Peter as the butt of the jokes in the family. Normally due to his devotion to statistics, train-spotting or Bob Dylan! We all associated Uncle Peter with laughter. But there was one very serious thing he did for me and my siblings; at a very serious time. Shortly after losing our mother at a young age, Uncle Peter would find himself living alone from Monday to Friday whilst his wife Audrey stayed with us, helping out where necessary. As far as I’m aware his domestic skills at the time would have been basic at best. And yet there he was, coming home to an empty house, night after night... and having to generally fend for himself in all the areas that would have been taken care of for him by his wife. This new normal would last for several years... and he accepted it without question. And simply got on with it. Whilst his niece and nephews had the benefits of Audrey’s services. Again, this is not something him and I ever spoke about, even years later. Thus, I never did thank him for those immense sacrifices that were made in the 90’s. So I say to him now, on here: Thank you Uncle Peter. Your sacrifices did not go unnoticed. A thoroughly good man. May you rest in peace.
